Administrative history | The Fountain Club was established in 1919, following a meeting on Monday 10 November 1919 at the Windsor Hotel, of members of the Royal Army Medical Corps, including the Bart's trained Captain Philip Henry George Gosse, Major Oskar Teichman, and H D Clementi-Smith. Teichmann suggested the creation of a monthly Old Bart's Dining Club; Clementi-Smith suggested it should be called 'La Barta' and Gosse 'The Fountain.'
The first dinner was held on Thursday 27 November 1919 at Bellini’s, Mill Street, London. In May 1922, Oskar Teichman was appointed Clerk and he instituted the yearly booklet of rules and list of members. Membership is restricted to former St. Bartholomew’s doctors, and is by invitation governed by an electoral procedure. |
