| Description | Most of the plans in this book are undated, but no.37 is dated 1755 and no.7 is dated 1759. Some plans give dates of leases granted to tenants, and these dates are all before 1760. Plan no.38 is annotated with the date 1762. No.34 is a later copy of a plan dated 1725; the copy is probably contemporary with the other plans in this book, i.e. c.1755-62.
Some plans bear the initials "W.R.", i.e. William Robinson, Surveyor to the Hospital 1748-67 (identified on SBHB/HC/46/18). Some bear the initials "E.C.", i.e. Emanuel Crouch, assistant to Robinson until 1767 and subsequently Surveyor to the Hospital. Index at front of vol. gives references to plans in this book and also to plans in "Book 1", (now catalogued as SBHB/HC/19) and in "Book 3" (now SBHB/HC/22), and to unbound plans (some of which may now be in SBHB/HC/45). |
