Description | Valuation of properties and possessions of the late monastic hospital of St Bartholomew in London and beyond, October 1546. Compiled for use by the Corporation of London as evidence of the Hospital's property and chattels. Probably the original ''particulars for grant' compiled by the Court of Augmentations relating to the hospital and associated property, prior to the granting of the new charter to the hospital in 1547 by Henry VIII.
Membrane 1: summary valuation of the possessions of the late monastic hospital of St Bartholomew, of the part of St Sepulchre's parish within Newgate, of the parishes of St Audoen and St Nicholas Shambles, and of the late monastery of Greyfriars; also of the obligations agreed by the City under the charter of King Henry VIII.
Membrane 2: detailed valuation of the parish property of St Nicholas Shambles.
Membrane 3: detailed valuation of the part of St Sepulchre's parish within Newgate
Membrane 4: detailed valuation of the late Greyfriars (torn away at bottom).
Membranes 5-10: detailed valuation of London properties of St Bartholomew's Hospital
Membranes 11-13: fees, annuities, diet and stipends of the staff of the monastic hospital
Membranes 16-17: inventory of goods of the Hospital, arranged by room, May 1546
Membrane 17: section headed 'Stufe rem[aining] in the Custodye of the Systers', lists the contents of various rooms, with their values. Mentioned here are 'The Inner Roome called the Mennys (Men's) Room' with thirteen bedsteads, some barely furnished, and 'The Inner Roome Called the Womens Roome' which had twenty-two bedsteads, nine barely furnished. It has been estimated that the Hospital had space for 50 to 60 patients prior to the refoundation, but clearly the furnishings were in a poor state.
Membranes 18-19: property still in the king's hands |
